In honor of National Poetry Month, come celebrate the power of words and support your local library! Enjoy an inspiring evening of poetry, featuring local talent and community voices. Whether you’re a seasoned poet or just beginning, this is your chance to share your work and connect with fellow creatives. Your participation and donations ensure the Evanston Public Library continues to provide a robust collection for all patrons! Together, we can build a community where stories, creativity, and learning thrive.

Admission Donation:$10 or $20
(All proceeds go to the Evanston Public Library to support collections)

Highlights:

  • Open Mic Poetry Reading - share your own poems or share a poem from your favorite poet
  • Featured poet - Christina Pugh is the author of six books of poetry, including The Right Hand (Tupelo Press,
    2024), and a book of essays on poetry titled Ghosts and the Overplus (University of Michigan
    Press, 2024). A former Guggenheim fellow in poetry and the recipient of awards and
    fellowships from the Poetry Society of America, the Illinois Arts Council, and others, she is a
    professor in the Program for Writers at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was
    named Distinguished Scholar of the Year in Humanities, Arts, Design, and Architecture.
  • The Mini Bar will be open during this event and will have beer, wine, cocktails, nonalcoholic beverages, and snacks available for purchase.
